This was followed by a general KSA membership meeting introducing the new board of directors, and acknowledging 2008 as KSA's 25th year as a nonprofit organization in Hawaii.

10 Awards and 1 Honorable Mention were presented (see below for award winners). Also, the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts/ Art in Public Places Acquisition Committee selected 4 works for purchase recommendation to the state's Art in Public Places collection.

Yoshihara earned her MFA from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She was at the Hawaii State Foundation for Culture and the Arts for 20 years as curator of the Art in Public Places program and was the founding director of the Hawaii State Art Museum. Yoshihara co-curated the exhibition "Excelling the Work of Heaven: Personal Adornment from China" that featured 700 objects of the Ming and Qing dynasties from the San Francisco-based Shyn Collection. Slide lecture: "Excelling the Work of Heaven: Personal Adornment from China"

On Monday, September 8, at 5:30 pm at Kukui Grove, Yoshihara and Kawamoto gave a free slide presentation based on the exhibition "Excelling the Work of Heaven: Personal Adornment from China" co-curated by Yoshihara and held at the University of Hawaii Art Gallery in Fall 2007 that featured 700 exquisite objects of personal adornment made of silver, jade, kingfisher feathers, ivory, precious stones, and coral predominantly created during late imperial China (circa 1368 to 1911). It was a golden age where artisans transformed materials beyond function to levels of perfection through their virtuosic techniques. The adornment worn by both men and women provides insight into the social structure of the time, culture, myths, folklore, literary works, and religious ideas. "It was a fascinating exhibition," says Yoshihara, "organized through the following interpretative areas: Virtuosic Technique, Form and Function, Culture, Auspicious Symbols, Identity and Social Status, giving insight to Chinese tradition and culture, much still practiced today."
