A favorite
of both KSA artists and art buyers, the KSA Small
Works Show opened Friday, November 19, 1999 with a reception
at the Kinipopo Fine Art Gallery in Wailua. 164 artworks by 74 artists were chosen
for the exhibition which ran through December 29.
Juror for the show was Barbara Rau, Manager of The Museum
Shop at The Contemporary Museum in Honolulu.
Artworks in the exhibit were no
larger than 16" in any dimension (including frame, base,
etc.). A wide range of media were featured in the
show, including painting, photography, glass, ceramics, wood,
jewelry, and more. Much of the work was created specifically
for this exhibit (no work previously shown on Kauai in a
judged or juried show was eligible).

Enjoying the KSA Small Works opening
reception at the Kinipopo Fine Art Gallery are (clockwise
from upper left) gallery owner Phil Harrison, gallery staff
member Gera Korte, artist A.Kimberlin Blackburn, show juror
Barbara Rau, and gallery manager Diane Ferry (also a
participating artist).
About the juror: Barbara Rau's ability to seek out and find
rare and unusual contemporary art and crafts is what
distinguishes The Museum Shop at The Contemporary Museum
from other shops on Oahu and throughout the United States.
Rather than buy from standard sources, Barbara prefers to
interview and work directly with artists, to hand pick the
work that will show (and sell) well. Barbara has a thorough
knowledge of art and antiques and an extensive background in
retail management. She features many local artists including
Kauai artists.

show, including work by Carol Ann Davis, Janet Klein,
Charles Davis, and Wayne Zebzda.
